Bel's Guide to Southwest

 { Belinda is wearing the Emery Dress in Indigo }

One of the my favorites places in the United States has always been New Mexico. With the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Festival on the horizon this year I knew we had to just go ahead & buy our festival tickets & the rest would follow & so it did.

Things to do:

The Albuquerque Balloon Festival

This is an experience like no other. A place to be a kid again in awe of all that surrounds you which is colorful balloons literally going up right next to you. The key is the wake up very early and head for the festival. By early I mean 4 am which was tough to do but so worth it! Watching the balloons light up before the sun came up was so beautiful.

Tour Georgia O'Keefe's Home + Ghost Ranch

A tour you don't want to miss while near Santa Fe. Must book in advance during the Fall season. Georgia O'Keefe's work is an inspiration to any artist.

Explore the Meow Wolf Immersive Exhibit

This is is all sort of weird, quirky, and fun all at the same time. My son was amazed by this place and watching him light up was such a joy!

Shop at Double Take, a consignment store in Santa Fe

I could spend hours in this shop with my addiction to all things vintage. Their vintage cowboy boot selection was beyond anything I had ever seen in one store. If you are a vintage lover this is a must stop in Santa Fe.

Must Visit Locations:

Bandelier National Monument

Go ahead and get your National Parks yearly pass because you will definitely get your money's worth throughout the year. Bandelier is just breathtaking and the history is even bigger. You feel the energy of the ancestral pueblo people who once lived there if you sit for a moment and mediate long enough.

Amitabha Stupa & Peace Park

A lovely buddhist center and park that truly encompasses a place of peace & meditation. The views of the red rocks are incredible from top and definitely worth visiting while in Sedona.

White Sands National Park

A site to be seen, felt & touched. White Sands National Monument is unlike anything I have experienced before. You find yourself amongst miles and miles of soft white sand and blue skies. I have had the opportunity to camp here before but this time around it was a stop for us with our 4 year old. I highly recommend camping for those backpackers out there.

Restaurant Recommendations:

La Plazuela

A charming landmark restaurant in the La Fonda hotel in the center of town. The margaritas, the scenery & the food were all worth the visit. This time of year it is tough to get a reservation so I recommended booking in advanced.

Tesuque Village Market

Yummy food off the beat and patch in a lovely part of town.

Cafe Pascual

A charming restaurant with a gallery next door. Lots of chilis and that authentic new mexican food.
